Hi, Anonymous! It could be one of these things:
1. Cookie batter is over mixed: this releases extra gluten and makes baked goods chewy. I changed the instruction a slightly so it is clear.
2. Cookies are underbaked: proper oven temp makes a difference, was oven preheated? Or could cookies be baked a few minutes longer? Were the cookies baked in the middle rack?

Don't give up and try another batch, may be do half of the recipe until you get the result you want. :) Thanks so much for trying the recipe.
